ACTinBlack THE14 is the lightest PVS-14 type compatible night vision monocular currently on the market.
The rugged design is combat proven and extremely durable. Its built for combat and extreme operations in harsh conditions and environments.
ACTinBlack THE14 is fully compatible to all PVS-14 type accessories, optics and Gen3 image intensifier tubes making it the new standard for monocular night vision systems without requiring a replacement of existing accessories.
THE14 Night Vision Monocular combines lightweight materials to create the lightest PVS-14 type compatible monocular currently on the market. It weights in at a minimum of 255g / 9 oz while using standard Gen3 18mm image intensifier tubes. With no compromises in functionality it features manual gain, automatic flip up shut-off, IR illuminator and low battery indicator highlight cut-off.
Furthermore, ACTinBlack THE14 has a 66ft / 20m for 2h submersion rating which is tested for every single housing to ensure quality. The monocular can be mounted to combat helmets or weapons, which enables night vision capabilities to daytime optical sights.
THE14 is certified to the MIL-STD-810G for environmental, drop and other relevant criteria.
Gen3 White Phosphor Tubes
THE14 comes with various options for Gen3 White Phosphor Tubes. These tubes are the well known Photonis Echo, Echo+ and the newer Harder Gen 3 tubes.
Options available are
- Photonis Echo, 1600 FOM, White Phosphor
- Photonis Echo+ 2000 FOM, White Phosphor
- Harder Gen 3, 1800 FOM, White Phosphor
- Harder Gen 3, 2100 FOM, White Phosphor
What is FOM
FOM (figure of merit) is used to determine the overall performance of the image intensifier tube. FOM is calculated according to the image intensifier’s resolution and signal-to-noise ratio. The value of FOM is used for measuring the effectiveness of a device and for determining the functioning of the night vision devices.
FOM values reach a maximum rate of 2100 with Gen 2+ and Gen 3 devices. Tubes with a very high S/N value and high resolution (lp/mm) will result in the highest FOM value and higher performance of the image intensifier tubes and devices.
All Gen3 tubes available with THE14 have high FOM values and exceptional night vision capabilities.
Why White Phosphor
At the end of the day it really comes down to the preference of the operator but White phosphor definitely has a edge over Green Phosphor.

- Reduced Eyestrain: White phosphor was created to eliminate eye strain for users spending long hours under NVGs, and white tubes feel very natural to most users.
- High Specifications: Currently L3 Filmless tubes are only made in white phosphor, and Filmless tubes lend themselves to better SNR and Halo specs (See What is FOM above).
- Better contrast: White phosphor allows for improved clarity, definition and depth of view allowing the user to better distinguish between objects.
- Better Visual Information: The white phosphor image engages a greater portion of your eye’s receptors, giving your brain more visual information to make quick, life-saving decisions. The white phosphor image also has greater contrast, reduced halo, and reduced eye fatigue.
Because of the above details, white phosphor technology allows for improves safety and security for the military, Coast Guard, police, search and rescue, shipping, oil industry, security, and all industries that operate outdoors at night, such as refineries.
